The latest VC volunteer to depart on overseas assignment was Shane Lynch, a young metrologist from Co. Laois. Shane went to Haiti on 15th June to take up an assignment in St. Damien’s Hospital, Tabarre as a biomedical engineer. The hospital provides high quality medical treatment for disadvantaged and sick children in Haiti. Shane will be responsible for the biomedical department, working closely with the present biomedical technician to keep the biomedical equipment functioning. This is a diverse range of equipment: from sonography machines to anesthetic machines to microscopes, billilight to combat jaundice in newborns as well as incubators among other types of equipment.
Beyoncé also visited St. Damien’s Hospital during a personal humanitarian mission to Haiti. This short video gives an insight into the important work of this hospital and where Shane will now share his skills.
