Viatores Christi- VC (Ireland) is proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking online course on Disability and Climate Change. This accessible eLearning course aims to raise awareness about the impact of Climate Change on people with disabilities and foster positive change on a global scale. The course will be officially launched at an online event on 30th June 2023.
Climate Change is an issue that affects every member of our global society, regardless of their background or geographic location. However, the specific impact of Climate Change on people with disabilities remains widely misunderstood, and there is a scarcity of information available on this critical subject. With the support of Irish Aid and Erasmus+, Viatores Christi and international disability organisation Abilis Foundation have joined forces to bridge this knowledge gap and drive meaningful change.
The development of the course is part of VC’s strategic decision to lead by example and become more inclusive as a development/humanitarian organisation.
VC CEO Shane Halpin said, “This is a really important step for us in terms of our journey in this area. Over 15% of the world’s population has a disability either acquired or from birth. It is imperative that we not only talk the talk but walk the walk and our well respected training aimed at development practitioners becomes more inclusive and indeed accessible.”

Over the past year, a team of experts has dedicated their efforts to researching, developing, and rigorously testing an online course that explores the intersection of Disability and Climate Change. By providing comprehensive knowledge and sharing personal experiences and perspectives from individuals worldwide, this course aims to empower individuals to take positive action at the local, national, and global levels.

The course delves into various aspects, including the definition of Disability, the implications of Climate Change on people with Disabilities, and an in-depth exploration of what Climate Change entails. Participants will gain valuable insights into the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and discover practical ways to contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable future.

To celebrate the launch of this transformative course, Viatores Christi will be hosting an online event on 30th June 2023 from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon. This event will bring together esteemed sector experts in Climate Change, Disability, and Global Citizenship to share their perspectives and engage in thought-provoking discussions. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, expand their knowledge, and discover the power of collective action.
