Viatores Christi (VC) is Ireland’s oldest lay missionary organisation, founded in 1960 by a group of University of Dublin students inspired by a commitment to Catholic social justice and a call to mission. Since then, VC has grown and evolved alongside the changing landscape of the Church in Ireland.

In the 1970s and ’80s, VC sent up to 40 volunteers annually to work alongside Irish missionaries in communities across Africa, South America, Haiti, and Southeast Asia. While fewer volunteers are sent abroad today, our commitment remains strong. We continue to support and sustain vital programmes in over 14 countries—reaching some of the world’s most marginalised people—through project funding from Misean Cara and Irish Aid.

For more than six decades, Viatores Christi has been supported by dedicated lay members who, like a close-knit family, have poured their time, energy, and love into our mission. Their lasting legacy lives on in every life touched by our work.
