Viatores Christi CLG is guided by a Board of Directors, known as a Council, who provide oversight and support in areas of governance, organisational and operational issues, policy development, finances, membership and strategy. The VC Council is made up of 10 members – which consist of a President, Vice-President and Treasurer and ordinary members. The Council is elected annually at the Annual General Meeting during September.
The VC Council members have, between them, accumulated vast experience in overseas development as well expertise in other areas including media, law, finance, healthcare and more.
Pauline Conway, who has served on the Viatores Christi Council since 2029, was elected as the President of the Council in September 2022. Pauline, who lives in Monkstown, Co. Dublin, Ireland is a retired Irish diplomat, who spent thirty years working in the Department of Foreign Affairs. She served as Head of Mission in Ethiopia (1998-2004) and Tanzania (1991-1996), worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Lesotho (1987-1989) and at Ireland’s Mission to the United Nations in New York (1981-1985). Much of her work in Dublin was focused on international development and African issues. Since retirement, Pauline served on the Board of Misean Cara for six years (2013- 2019) and chaired its Programmes Committee. She is currently a Board member of Christian Aid Ireland and of Shalom Ireland (which Supports conflict resolution and reconciliation in Kenya).
Paul Sheridan, based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, serves as a Council member on the VC Council since September 2020. Paul, who works in media, served as a VC volunteer in Zambia 2017-2018 where he volunteered with a local media project.
Noel O’Meara has been a Viatores Christi Council member since September 2017. Noel, who lives in Borrisokane, Co.Tipperary, was a VC volunteer in Eswatini (Swaziland) in 2014-2015 where he spent 18 months as a VC volunteer in Manzini working with the Salesians on the establishment of a vocational agricultural training centre and capacity building projects. He has returned to Manzini many times since. Noel‘s professional background is in the area of governance within the public sector in Ireland.
Margaret O’Regan was elected as a Council member to Viatores Christi in September 2022. She was posted as a Development worker in Western Uganda in 2018/2019 where she pioneered a project to provide psychosocial support to the elderly. This included establishing day centers, providing training to caregivers and utilising radio to create awareness of the challenges experienced by the elderly. Margaret’s career has been in nursing and in particular public health nursing. She also has extensive experience as a social services inspector with the Health Information and Quality Authority
Anthony Hannon lives in Dublin and was elected to the VC Council in September 2022. Anthony served as a VC volunteer in Malawi from 2002 – 2006. Anthony’s professional experience is the area of international development work and has worked in the sector for over 20 years. He worked with Misean Cara as a Senior Projects Officer and Education Officer for 14 years. Anthony is currently working as a Missionary Development Coordinator with the Loreto Sisters. Has a keen interest in all areas related to development and a particular passion for Girls’ Education, missionary approaches to development and Human Rights.
Aisling Foley, based in Cape Town, South Africa was first elected to the VC Council in September 2021. Aisling has professional experience across a number of areas including special needs education, mental disabilities, development work and community work. Aisling, a former lawyer from Ireland, served as a VC volunteer in Cape from 2009-2019
