From Fermoy to Chimbote
Tessa Cornally, originally from Co. Cork, is working with the Incarnate Word Missionary (IWM) Programme in Chimbote, Peru.
“I began my time as a lay missionary in September 2013 and am serving for two years. I am working with Women’s Global Connection (WGC), a ministry of the congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, which helps women develop knowledge and leadership skills so they can become economically independent. I hold a BA from University College Cork, and MAs from Université de Franche-Comté, France and Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona, Spain and I use my academic work to help me in this effort. In addition, I’m working with Sembrando Infancia, a nutrition program coordinated by Santa Clara Clinic, one of the congregation’s health care ministries in Chimbote. I help with different aspects of the program, which combats malnutrition in infants and children under five. I also organise training workshops for teachers and parents in the areas served by the clinic.”
