Volunteer Allowances & Payments

Most of our roles are funded roles that allow for skilled volunteer development workers to receive

  • A monthly living allowance
  • A contribution towards return airfares from Dublin to their country of assignment
  • Contributions towards vaccinations
  • Comprehensive travel and medical insurance cover

Please note that most of roles are for a 12-month duration with options for renewal.

Fundraising Requirement

All volunteers who have been successful in finding an overseas placement are asked to contribute a minimum of €600 to VC towards the cost of their placement.

Fundraising this amount can be as easy as;

  • Holding one or two coffee mornings in your local community
  • Holding a table quiz
  • Speaking in your local parish
  • Just asking family, friends and colleagues to fundraise for you

The fundraising requirement forms part of the pre-departure process.

Recruitment Process

VC is committed to ensuring that the volunteer recruitment process will be

  • Open
  • Efficient
  • Consistent
  • Transparent
  • and will comply with all relevant legislation

Personal information received will be dealt with in the strictest confidence and in line with Data Protection and the General Data Protection Regulation.

Inclusion forms an important aspect of the recruitment of volunteers.  Applicants will not be excluded from being considered for a position based on background, marital or family status, culture, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation or disability in accordance with the Irish Equality legislation.

Volunteer positions will be offered based on competence to deliver the work, qualification, respect for faith-based ethos, cultural adaptability and enthusiasm for the position.

Due to the nature of some pastoral placements and religious congregation assignments, volunteers will sometimes be required to be faith observant. If this situation should arise, VC will make this clear at the commencement of the recruitment process.
