A Life-Changing Session

In collaboration with VC partner Foundation of Hope (FOHO), Masaka, Uganda, Ruth recently participated in a life-changing session with a remarkable group of teenage mothers. These courageous young women shared their stories, shedding light on the countless challenges they face daily. Shockingly, some of them became mothers as early as 13 years old, setting them on a daunting path toward adulthood.

Unveiling the Struggles

During the session, the discussion unveiled a range of pressing issues these young mothers face regularly. Sexual gender-based violence, lack of access to education due to financial constraints, poverty, disrespect from husbands, high risk of HIV, and child neglect emerged as significant concerns. The magnitude of their struggles was overwhelming, yet their determination to overcome these obstacles was inspiring.

Introducing the “SMART CHOICE SAVING GROUP”

In response to the challenges faced by these resilient young women, FOHO and VC-ESC volunteer Ruth launched a powerful solution—the SMART CHOICE SAVING GROUP. This transformative programme aims to provide a support system that fosters financial independence and empowerment among teenage mothers in Masaka, Uganda.

Through the SMART CHOICE SAVING GROUP, young mothers have the opportunity to save money, and invest in income-generating activities. By promoting financial literacy and entrepreneurship, the programme equips these young women with essential tools to break free from the cycle of poverty and create a brighter future for themselves and their children.

More Than Financial Support

The savings group goes beyond financial assistance. It creates a safe space for sharing experiences, offering emotional support, and fostering a strong sense of community. The teenage mothers will engage in educational workshops and training sessions designed to enhance their life skills, boost their self-esteem, and empower them to make informed choices for themselves and their families.
