Research Trainer and Co-ordinator
Mary T Finnegan is deployed at Bishop Magambo Counselling Training Institute (BMCTI) in Fort Portal, Uganda since December 2014 as their research trainer and co-coordinator. BMCTI offers a series of counselling courses from certificate to masters level. It also provides counselling services to the people of Rwenzori region and delivers short targeted training interventions in the community such as domestic violence and teenage girl training. The Rwenzori region is situated in the South West of Uganda and experiences a multiplicity of social problems such as high unemployment -up to 80% of its youth , the highest rate of AIDS/HIV in Uganda, high school drop out rates particularly amongst young girls, teenage pregnancy, polygamy, alcohol abuse, witchcraft , to name just some. Mary T Finnegan spent 30 years in An Garda Siochana prior to taking up this assignment.
